Second win in the bag

BWHC L3XI 4 – 1 Winscombe L4XI (Home)

An emphatic win from an ever improving Bridgwater Ladies 3XI.

Bridgwater 3s came into the match today again determined to add another win to their tally. They began the first half strong forcing Winscombe to defend hard. With the midfielders, Tracy Gue, Sophy Goodman, Sue Chaplin and 3s debutant Julie Reed, returning back to hockey after a break, working tirelessly with attackers Bev Dillon also making her debut, Mel Storey and Talia Trunks, Bridgwater made life difficult for Winscombe but were yet to capitalise on their efforts. With substitute Kath Briggs joining the fray that hard work was to be paid off as Kath took first blood scoring the first goal. Bridgwater with some slick passing and great hockey continued to keep Winscombe busy in their own half with Bridgwater’s defence being called into action to shut down any advances to the Bridgwater D. Some excellent play from the midfield and forwards gave Bridgwater more chances on goal and a short corner was awarded. Super sub Kath scored again
and Bridgwater ended the first half on a high at 2-0.
The 2nd half brought more play into Bridgwater’s half with Winscombe hungry for goals. Bridgwater defenders Linda Hay, Lydia Hemsley, and Shawnee Harrington-Bryce working hard to keep Winscombe breakaway attacks at bay. Although Bridgwater were starting to tire their steely determination and excellent team work paid off as Kath smashed two more goals past the Winscombe goalkeeper. This only proved to light a fire under Winscombe’s attack with a flurry of pressure being put on Bridgwater’s defence and goalkeeper Sam Mirto, making some well timed saves. A breakaway attack from Winscombe awarded them with a goal for their hard fought efforts ending the match at 4-1 to the home side

Man of the match votes went across the board to to Talia, Lydia, Mel, Tracey, Shawnee and Julie with Kath taking the coveted award for her fantastic 4 goals.
Many thanks to all those who came down to support and next week Bridgwater Ladies 3’s will traveling to Winscombe with hopes to repeat their performance against their 3XI.
