The Women’s 1s secured their first win of the season in a tightly contested battle against a youthful side from the University of Plymouth. The match started incredibly well for the home side, defending solidly and putting in some excellent moves going forwards, testing the Plymouth keeper early on. The stalemate was broken after a fantastic strike from Cheryl Notaro-Livingstone found player of the match Donna Cooper on the back post to put Bridgwater 1-0 ahead leading into half time. The second half was a gritty affair with both teams struggling to find the right passes to put themselves on the scoresheet. Plymouth managed to get themselves a goal from a fortunate short corner rebound, but Bridgwater refused to concede the opportunity for three points and pushed on, never giving up, working tirelessly across the pitch to keep the dream alive. With only a few minutes left on the clock, Bridgwater pushed forward with every last bit of energy, and managed to get into the D, finding a Plymouth foot on the stroke of the full time whistle. One final chance, one final short corner. With the whole team surrounding the D, there was no chance we were going to let this opportunity go. Donna Cooper injected accurately to Cheryl Notaro-Livingstone at the top of the D, a solid straight strike, which was saved very well by the Plymouth keeper, but as the ball was rolling away Captain Sapphy Reed-Yang sprinted to the ball ahead of the Plymouth defence to keep the dream alive, a quick turn and as she slip the ball to the P-spot hoping there was going to be someone there for a cheeky touch in! And of course, who would be there? Lorraine Hollidge! GOAL! Three points secured! A nail biting end, but we did it! First win of the season in the new league! Thank you to the supporters who came and cheered us on!
