The women’s 1s took the short trip to Civil Service this week in a match where pride and points would be the ultimate prize. In the reverse fixture, Bridgwater ran into a bit of trouble and suffered a defeat at home. And so had a lot to prove to themselves, the opposition and the loyal supporters! Bridgwater started incredibly well keeping possession of the ball, applying pressure upfront and meddling with Civil’s attacking plans. Both teams had some good chances but neither were able to break the stalemate. With Keeper Amy Burridge keeping a clean sheet with some excellent saves, assisted well by Julie Morrish and Charlotte East putting in some solid goal line saves, with Niamh Dillon, Josie Loxton and Laura Coles also with a strong performance in defence. The midfield worked tirelessly enabling Bridgwater to keep possession and linked up well to the forwards who ran their socks off and were unfortunate not to score, hitting the post or shots going just wide. The score finished in a fair 0-0, with neither team able to break the stalemate! Player of the match went to midfielder Heidi Martin for her exceptional work rate and great movement on and off the ball!
