Women’s 1s 4-0 Firebrands

The women’s 1s had an absolute stormer away from home against a drilled side from Firebrands. Bridgwater had a bit of a slow start to the match (blame it on a 10am pushback), but gradually eased into the game and found their rhythm. Nearing the end of the first half Bridgwater broke the deadlock, winning a short corner. Laura Coles stepped up with a powerful strike from the top of the D, but the Firebrands keeper made an exceptional save. The rebound ball fell to skipper Sapphy Reed-Yang who hammered the ball home into the roof of the net, leading Bridgwater 1-0 up into half time. The second half Bridgwater absolutely dominated the game across all areas of the pitch. In defence, keeper Amy Burridge made multiple calm and collected saves to give Bridgwater a well deserved clean sheet. Down the other end of the pitch, the team piled on the pressure, testing the Firebrands defence. The second goal came again from a short corner routine, with Coles in action again, slipping the ball to player of the match Lauren Morrish on the left, to slide the ball nicely for ‘deflection queen’ Willow Hobbs to get on the scoreboard. Goal three, came from some excellent team passing between Reed-Yang and Abbie Lewis down the left hand side, with Lewis picking the gap and finding Lucy Burridge in the D to calmly roll out and place the ball right in the corner of the goal. 3-0. The final goal, again a different goal scorer, saw a strong and powerful strike from Charlotte East finding the backboard and sealing the deserved win for Bridgwater! A strong team performance and an important three points! Bridgwater go again next week facing Somerset Gryphons at home.
