Mens 1s 3-4 Royal Wootton Bassett

The men’s 1s put in a gutsy, effort filled performance against promoted and 2nd place side Royal Wootton Bassett, but came away empty handed after a 4-3 loss. The game started in the home sides favour, with Bridgwater offering too much respect and going 2-0 down after 15 minutes. This sparked Bridgwater into action, however, and a clever short corner from Rob Morrish enabled captain Duncan Morrish to sweep home for a tight angle. With only a minute to go, a fantastic break from Bridgwater saw both Jordan Rawles and Tyler Coleman have their shots fantastically saved off the line by defenders, with neither player able to do anything but applaud the defensive work. Despite their dominance of the last 20 minutes, Bridgwater went into half time 2-1 down.

The second half started with a soft short corner going against Bridgwater within the first minute, which sadly for them was converted. Despite being on the back foot in terms of the scoreline, Bridgwater went undetected and kept battling to find their next goal, constantly threatening the home side and putting them under pressure. Against the run of play, Bassett scored their 4th from a well worked short corner, but this simply blitzed Bridgwater into action - a fantastically called short corner from Rawles saw him expertly deflect the ball into the top left hand corner, and a brave diving finish from Tom Stacey brought Bridgwater within 1 goal with 5 minutes to go. Again, Bridgwater dominated the end of the half but couldn’t find the goal that would put them level.
