Victory - Vale Vanquished!

The men’s 1s made sure they kept their fine home form going, and put their recent form behind them as they dispatched local rivals Taunton Vale in a dominant performance. It was the home side who kicked the game into action, putting Vale under early pressure and forcing the keeper into a couple good early saves. Despite a small flurry of Vale probes forward, with keeper Pete Saunders making some important saves, it was Bridgwater who drew first blood as captain Duncan Morrish made a good step to pick up on a loose pass, lifting the ball into the D and dispatching the ball above the backboard. Bridgwater soon made it 2 when a fantastic forward move enabled Tom Stacey to have a strike which was saved - but Tom Lott was there to bury home the rebound. Lott grabbed his second goal after some good defensive work from Rob Morrish, who made a strong tackle and put through a great aerial to Ash Woolmington, who combining with D Morrish and Lott, was able to get through to the baseline and square for Lott to slot the ball in for a 3-0 lead at half time.

The second half started in much the same vein as the first - Saunders made a couple good early saves, but the first goal of the half went Bridgwater’s way - another slick forward move found 4 players in the D to Vale’s 1, and Will Pope swept the ball perfectly into the corner. With the home side keen on pressing home their advantage, they grabbed their 5th through Woolmington, who unleashed a powerful strike into the bottom right hand corner giving the keeper no chance. Fittingly, it was Lott who grabbed the last Bridgwater goal of the game, smashing the ball into the roof of the net from close range, ensuring he completed his hat trick. Despite a late Vale consolation goal, the damage had been done and a well deserved win was completed - the 1s scoring record at home, 14 goals in their last 2 games.

Player of the match went to Tom Lott for his goal scoring touch, but also selfless play up top!
